ULTIMATE AND LEAGUE RULES

For our league, we are using the following.

GAMES: Each week we will play two games. The first game will be to 7 pts, and the second game will be to 11 pts.

HALFTIME: There will be no halftime during the 7 pt. game. There will be a short break between games. There will be ONE short halftime during the 11 pt. game.

RULES: We will play using the rules as written in the Tenth Edition of the Ultimate rulebook (at upa.org).

DROPPED PULLS: For the first two weeks, we will allow the team to retain possession of a dropped pull. We will stop play and explain the rule if a pull is dropped. By week three, this will be considered a turnover.

ZONE DEFENSE: No team is allowed to play zone the first two weeks. After two weeks, teams may play zone.

TIMEOUTS: One timeout in the 7 pt. game. One timeout in each half of the 11 pt. game (two total).

GENDER: Offense calls gender. We prefer either 5-2 (five men, two women) or even better 4-3. Teams should only play 6-1 by request of the women (who are tired) or because of a shortage of women.

LEAGUE PHILOSOPHY
Our league is dedicated to FUN. FUN FUN FUN FUN, BIG TONS OF FUN.
Since we have many people who have played very little or not at all, we want those people to feel comfortable and welcome. We hope experienced players will take these less experienced players under their wings and guide them with kindness and respect.
NO YELLING AT PEOPLE or general negativity!!!
So, our league will be as competitive as it is with the personnel we have. Though we encourage competition and challenge, we want the SPIRIT OF THE GAME observed at all times and for the new players to feel like integral members of their teams.
KEEP OUR WOMEN INVOLVED!! It came to the attention of the KUSS brain trust that already, in the pre-season session, women making open cuts were looked off and not thrown the disc. This is the not the way of KUSS. In KUSS philosophy, all players who make open cuts get the disc, especially the women!!!

SPIRIT OF THE GAME: If you have not played Ultimate before, definitely check out the description of THE SPIRIT OF THE GAME on the upa web site. We encourage good spirit all the time. Be cool everyone. Be cool.
CHEERS: We hope teams will cheer before taking the field at the start and following halftimes and timeouts. We also hope that winning teams will cheer the losers as is ULTIMATE TRADITION.
