WHAT IS KUDL? The Kalamazoo Ultimate Disc League (KUDL) is an organization dedicated to providing opportunities for people to play Ultimate (Frisbee). Founded in 2006, KUDL runs two seasons annually: Summer and Fall. KUDL is run by a group of dedicated, non-paid, individuals. Registration fee pays for fields, insurance, shirts and/or discs plus costs of the tournament and the party that follows.
LEAGUE DESCRIPTIONS
THE MONDAY CO-ED LEAGUE: The Monday league is co-ed with a 4/3 gender ratio with ideal attendance (4 men and 3 women on the field). It is open to players of ages 13 and up. No experience is necessary, other than the ability to run around; fellow players are always happy to teach you about the game and how to throw.
RECRUIT WOMEN! We already have a strong commuinity of dedicated and very awesome women players. We're a mixed league, and so we try to maintain an gender balance of 2 women and 5 men or 3 women and 4 men on the field at any time. We like to keep all our players – both women and men – involved and enjoying playing Ultimate in an easy-going, not-ultra-competitive environment. But with only four women on each team and some with limited availability, we really need more women in the league so that the ones we have don't get over-worked and exhausted. If you're a woman, please sign up. If you know women, encourage them to give KUDL a try. The women are ALL guaranteed playing time and invovlement!
THE WEDNESDAY COMPETITIVE LEAGUE: The Wednesday League (new for 2009) is designed for a higher level of Ultimate play. It is an Open league, meaning both men and women may play, but no effort will be made to maintain any gender ratio. Ages here are preferably at least 16 if not 17 or 18 and up. Beginners are welcome in the Wednesday League but may fare better if they have played Ultimate before, have athletic ability, and/or can handle the competitive environment. Wednesday night KUDL will be less cuddly.
KUDL YOUTH LEAGUE
KUDL is working hard to start a YOUTH LEAGUE in the Greater Kalamazoo area.
Play is already available in a Kalamazoo-city-run youth program.
Details can be found at Kalamazoo Parks and Recreation Youth Ultimate info
KUDL leaders are working to organize local high school teams. If you would like to be on a local high school ultimate team, to coach a local high school team, or have a high school team you would like to bring to play Kalamazoo teams, please contact Matthew Frayer - mjfrayer@gmail.com.
